South Asians for Justice and Equity
South Asians for Justice and Equity (SAJE) was formed by a group of South Asians in the Cleveland community who believe it is imperative for our community to show our unequivocal support for ending the systemic racism that plagues American society. We have benefited greatly from the African American freedom movement, and owe much to their efforts for our very presence in this country and the many privileges we’ve benefited from while here.
We are here to...
LEARN
We understand that the history taught in textbooks is incomplete, and we strive to learn more. We endeavor to learn a more accurate account of the events that have led to our current state of affairs.
SHOW SOLIDARITY
We wish to show the Black community that we are allies.
HELP
We have different skill sets, talents, and resources. Yet we share a passion for justice and stand ready to help.
ENLIST
We will encourage others to join our efforts by providing various types of opportunitites for allies of all ages and ability.
ACT
Through a series of short-term goals with measurable outcomes, we aim to consistently move forward along the path toward successfully creating justice and ending racial bias. Starting with collecting signatures for a petition to end Qualified Immunity for police officers, we will continue to put forth the effort taken to help right wrongs.
Our Mission
Our mission is to bring about meaningful change to break down the inequities within society regarding racial injustice.
How We Work
Our various teams meet individually to coordinate their efforts, and the whole group meets biweekly via Zoom to discuss progress and next steps. We reach out to experts and partner with different local organizations to meet our goals. So be sure to reach out to the individual project team leaders to learn more. And join our mailing list to keep up-to-date about what’s new and upcoming projects and events.
