Why Was The Project Chosen?
Since our initial inception in the summer of 2020, SAJE has worked with a variety of organizations in the Greater Cleveland area to explore potential ways in which we can be better allies with various other minority communities. Starting in 2022, our goal is to begin to work with one or two specific organizations and drive deeper impact through this focus.

Why Was The Project Chosen?
A collection of resources to help have the conversations to put a stop to casual and outright racism within our communities. These may include articles, infographics, and other forms of tips to help people know what to say when confronted with hate speech.
Because of societal norms, it is considered ruder to call someone out on racist statements than it is to make racist statements. We worry about being bad houseguests or being disrespectful, when the fault lies entirely on the makers of the hateful statements.
It won’t be easy, but it’s important to find ways to empower people to say what needs to be said without sacrificing their personal comfort level

We want to make it easier to have the difficult conversations. Cultural norms that deem it more rude to call out racist statements than to make the racist statements help perpetuate the perception that this behavior is acceptable.
To put together a collection of resources to help people have those conversations.
These resources — be they videos, articles, stories, lists of talking points — should work for helpers of different ages looking to address people of different ages and perspectives.

Why Was The Project Chosen?
We are fortunate to have a culturally rich South Asian community in northeast Ohio. This diversity helps bring an array of perspectives. The opportunity that lies ahead of us is to find ways to thread this diversity into a collective and powerful unit. Through this Committee we hope to better connect, inform, learn and educate South Asians related to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion opportunities in northeast Ohio.

– Expand the SAJE Core leadership team to be 30 individuals
– Expand the group to include 5 youth
The team has conducted a variety of events to create community engagement. This includes:
– Two major rallies that engaged approximately 400 participants.
– Chai Chat: Reflect and Learn (~5)
– Educational Webinars (Harvest For Hunger, Racial Inequities in Health, Racial Equity in Education)
– Launched a newsletter, a Facebook page, a website
– OSU SAJE Chapter – 3 local events; 11 people in the chapter Health care education interest group (Cleveland Clinic) Scholarships
